2002/04/11 Senior Center Board of Directors Minutes • • Rohnert Park Senior Center Board of Directors MINUTES Thursday, April 11, 2002 1:17pm roll call Present: Brubaker; Jurgiel; Kennedy; McDouall; Fuhs; Tringali; Audiss; Barry; Wilkerson; Hartnett Absent: Schaeffer Approval of Minutes MIS Vicki/Hazel with addition of Craft Shoppe report (attached) Unscheduled Public Appearances - none **New Business** Budget Helper Committee — to help with new special events for raising revenue. Committee members are Hazel, Ann, Betty and Lee. Computer Lab is under way. We have two systems, Valerie Marsh is working on getting them set up. We hope to have classes and lab time beginning in June. **Board Member Reports** Fun After 50: Going as strong as ever. Always getting new members. 186 on the roster. More men. Thankfully all members don't come at the same time, or there wouldn't be enough room for them all. 4 Mondays in March with total attendance of 432. Dining Site: (per Hazel) 54 home deliveries today. 32 congregate diners. Still keeping very busy. 496 diners for the month of March. Gift Shoppe: March sales were $1,592.50 ($354.00 at the Senior Celebration). $159 to the Senior Center, Commissions totaled $1,291 in 31 checks. As of 3/31 their inventory totaled $4,350. Current consignors total 46. 238 visitors in March. • Senior Advisory: New commissioner to fill E'Lane Bielecki's position. Georgia Todd to be installed at the next meeting on May 16. Discussion ensued about getting people to attend the meetings. Recreation Specialist: See attached for statistics. Horseracing, Karaoke, Bingo, and Step out for Senior Centers are upcoming events. No casino trip in May. The Bunny Basket raffle brought in a profit of$72.00. Wendy learned about a pre-school class at a Senior Center as a way of increasing revenue — will think more about that when the Senior Center expands. Recreation Coordinator: Baking Committee received $2 cash, $54.59 in supplies. Monthly expense is averaging $1 .20. Black & White Ball so far has received cash donations of$1,805. Auction has received items from 16 wineries, 10 hotels, 15 businesses including Harrah's Las Vegas. Yardbirds is loaning greenery, Beverly's candelabras, and Rotary will be doing the bar. The Rogers will donate all the wine. Vintage Choir concert will be on Sunday, 6/23. Tix on sale 5/13. Raffle proceeds to be given directly to the choir. Variety show award from CPRS. We will nominate the B/W ball for next year's awards. Working on show for the Scottish Rite, which will donate $1,500 to the Senior Center. Recreation Services Manager: CPRS conference was great for networking. Working on programs fro 0-2 year olds, music, etc,...a great revenue source. Summer activity guide out with 9 summer camps this summer. Some are '/Z filled already. June 1st working on the 24 hour relay by SCAYD at SSU. Also assisting with CPRS District I Leadership workshop for summer camp staff. Recreation Director: Skate park is waiting for funding and approval for vehicle access. Budget — suggestions were made. Many want government to be run as a business, but then complain when services are cut. Higher subsidy areas are the ones people really care about (seniors, teens, pools). There was a meeting last night with the city council and school board where they discussed Crane school — building department not to move in. **Other Items for Discussion** Hazel is trying to get Cotati seniors interested in coming to the Senior Center. Cotati is planning on a community/senior center at old school site.
