**New Business**
Forming Fund Raiser Committee
Vicki Wilkerson made a motion proposing that a committee be formed to find ways and
means to generate more income for the senior center by holding fundraisers. These
would be in addition to those fundraisers already in existence. After discussion, MSC to
form a Fund Raising Committee for the Senior Center's benefit.
It was agreed we would need to have a Chairman, with no more than six members on the
committee. Vicki will put a notice in the S.C.A.N. and Betty Tringali agreed to announce
this item at the next Fun After Fifty meeting to seek volunteers. The first meeting of this
Committee will be held on March 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby.
Other new business: Vicki announced that there was a $50 donation made to the Center
in memory of Dorothy Johnson. She suggested we name the Counseling Office"The
Dorothy Johnson Counseling Office" with an appropriate plaque on the door. After
discussion, MSC to call the counseling office the "Dorothy Johnson Counseling
Office"and to use the$50 donation in her memory to create a plaque for the door
of that office.
**Board Member Reports**
Fun After 50: Betty reported the new officers for 2004 were installed and that
Potlucks would be brown bag until a solution to staff the kitchen was found.
Dining Site: 1 I 1 volunteer hours; 559 meals.
Gift Shoppe: 222.75 volunteer hours; 319 visitors; $159.00 to Senior
Center.
Senior Advisory: Marion Ackerman was appointed as a Commissioner.
Councilman Armando Flores was reappointed to continue as City Council
Liaison to Senior Citizen Commission. Councilman Flores gave a report
on the Southwest Avenue Fire Station and the Neighborhood Improvement
Program.
Senior Programs Coordinator: Vicki Wilkerson noted the reconfiguration
of the drop-in center was completed. Berri McDouall commented that many
people were unhappy with the new arrangement and the TV should be put
back where it was previously. Vicki replied she received only a handful of
complaints. Others at the meeting commented that the set up was working
out and it will just take time for everyone to get used to the change.
A small TV with VCR was donated to the Center and will be useful to
the pepper spray class. Also two new arm chairs were added to the hostess
table in the drop-in donated by Joyce and Jimmy Rogers.
Senior Programs Specialist: Wendy commented she was working on Fund
Raising for the Community Center. She will keep the Center's new
Fund Raising Committee informed of any Department efforts in which
the Committee could participate.
**Old Business**
Pat Cassinelli discussed the space available for the wheelchairs in the dining
area. She recommended we remove the organ from its present location near
the back door so that wheelchairs can be parked there. This would also
provide quicker access to the exit. Vicki said she has someone who would
like to have the organ if the Center no longer wanted it.
After discussion, MSC to dispose of the organ in the dining room.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted:
Betty Tringali, Secretary
