Pursuant to Chairman Ann Kennedy's resignation because of her move to
Red Bluff, CA, nominations were opened to elect a new Chairman. Dorothy
Kral and Elaine Sampson were nominated; after a count of the votes, Wendy
Audiss announced that Dorothy Kral was the new Chairman.
Betty Tringali agreed to act as Secretary for the Board meetings, replacing
Wendy Audiss.
Approval of Minutes — MSC to approve.
Unscheduled Public Appearances — none
**New Business**
Vicki Wilkerson asked for approval to move the new TV, recently donated
by John Mazurak's family, from the dining room area to the drop-in area.
Vicki suggested moving some of the furniture in the drop-in area to
accommodate this move. Vicki will get in touch with Public Works and
work out the logistics of the move. After discussion, MSC to approve this
move and to purchase a cabinet to house the TV.
A discussion was also held concerning a possible donation to the Center by
the Craft Shoppe. The purchase of a cordless microphone was brought up
to replace the current sound system. Vicki will check with Public Works
to find out if it is feasible to modify the old system to accommodate to a
cordless mike and will make a report on the cost, etc. at the next meeting.
**Board Member Reports**
Fun After 50: 5 Mondays, attendance 489. Elaine Sampson reported that
the Club is now collecting for the Toys for Tots program. Betty Tringali
asked about the food collection which Ann Kennedy was handling. Wendy
responded that the Club continue to put any collected foods in the storeroom
as previously done and a person from the Brown Bag program will retrieve it
from there to add to their distribution program.
(At this point, Pat Cassinelli pointed out that the Brown Bag representative
wanted to know why the donated items collected by Pat and Joe were not
put out at the time of the brown bag distribution. It was explained that those
items were primarily for the Seniors who use the Senior Center and if any
recipients of the brown bag program wish to return later when the items are
put out, they may do so.)
Dining Site: 173 volunteer hours; 619 meals.
Gift Shoppe: 261 visitors; 211 volunteer hours; $103.00 to Senior Center.
Senior Advisory: Sandy Lipitz, CFO, has replaced Tim Barry to represent
the Recreation Department. Mayor Flores informed the Board that (1 )
Councilman Jake McKenzie would be appointing a new commissioner to
replace Ann Kennedy; (2) the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony
will take place on December Is', with everyone gathering in front of the new
library; (3) the City Council will be selecting a new Mayor and Vice-Mayor,
and that the Commissioners would be invited to the installation. Also, he
will check on the reappointment status of the current Commissioners.
Senior Programs Coordinator: Vicki Wilkerson announced two new
rentals — Overeaters Anonymous, on Saturday and Monday. Martha Waller
has volunteered to research places for day trips from the Center. For our
December 16 Christmas Party, National Bank of the Redwoods will donate
turkeys for raffle prizes. Tom Thunderhorse made a Christmas CD which
will sell for $15 with $5 of that amount to be donated to the Senior Center.
Vicki pointed out that there are two barrels in the lobby from the Salvation
Army — one for food donations and the other for toys. Vicki reported that
the family of John Mazurak donated a new TV to the Center. Vicki reported
on the recent Alaska cruise which netted the Center $650. The statistical
information she relayed on Senior Center activities, etc. will be attached to
these minutes.
Recreation Director: No report.
**Old Business**
Wish List: We can compile a list and see what we can do —perhaps using
donations from the penny jar and the donation boxes. If a Board member
finds there is some item which would be beneficial to the Center, it should
be brought to Vicki's attention.
Chairman Kral asked why there was a report on the Baking Committee and
not on Raley's donations. Vicki explained the report only includes
Committees baking for special events.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
