***Board Member Reports***
Attached report cover months February, March, April, May, 2005.
Fun after 50: Included in attached report.
Dining Site: Included in attached report.
Craft Shop: Included in attached report.
Senior Advisory: Betty Ferra had a list of complaints made to her about the Senior
Center staff picking through donated goodies and held for cronies. Pat Cassinelli pointed
out that amount of pastries/bread being donated by Ralcys has been reduced lately.
Vicki stated we will have to research this situation as to who is hoarding. Bread is put
out for people to take. There was also a complaint that someone was picking through the
cartful before it gets to the Center.
Fundraiser Committee: Vicki Wilkerson reported about the POA Breakfast and Games
Day scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2005. Admission will be $5.00.
The Bingo/Hot Dog party will be held on Friday, July 15'h.
A Flea Market will he held on Saturday, July 30'h.
Recreation Supervisor: Vicki Wilkerson's report on income is attached. She said that
numbers haven't really changed, just measured in different categories, i.e., perhaps less
coming to dining site but more meals are being delivered. In tracking donations in Drop
In donation box she finds donations are not exceeding the cost of coffee, cups, etc.
Regarding complaint about Sunday closing our research shows that we are the only
Senior Center in the County which historically has been open on Sundays(except for
Windsor and that is because they have a swimming pool). The other Center schedules are
Monday thru Friday or Tuesday through Friday. Pam Schaeffer interjected that many
people come from different areas and tell her and others here that we are the best!
The money saved by closing Sundays and Monday Holidays would amount to more than
$2000!
There was further discussion regarding the complaints brought up at Senior Advisory
which legimately should have been reported to the Board of Directors first. Someone
brought up the fact that one of the volunteers who pick up Alvarado bread is delivering 2
raisin breads. Many of these complaints came from Ernestine Stevens(who is the
recipient of these raisin breads!!).
The pastries/breads, etc. put out for general public cannot be made any prettier than as
sent to us.
Ernestine also charged that Vicki is the reason people are not coming to the Center. She
says Vicki is very rude and not helpful; she heard her say to someone(not an exact
quote)"why don't you go somewhere else if you're not satisfied here". To which Berni
Altman made a little speech re Vicki does not speak that way. Ernestine asked "Are you
calling me a liar?" Berni said"No I think you may have misheard " and she interrupted
Berni saying"yes you are and I(Ernestine)am not a liar and am not making it up.
(The secretary, Berni Altman, takes full responsibility for any discrepancies, omissions,
etc. The meeting was so colorful that I found myself listening, responding too much and
forgetting to take notes.)
If necessary a special meeting of the Board of Directors will be called. If not,the next
meeting will be held on Thursday, September 15th , following the Senior Advisory.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted:
Berni Altman, Secretary
