1. Definitions
a. 5150(a) W&I

2. Holds
a. Authority
b. Voluntary
c. Other factors to considers whether or not to place a person on a 5150 hold
3. Considerations and responsibilities
a. Available information
b. Conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
c. Community or other resources available to assist in dealing with mental health
issues
d. Mention of firearm or other weapons in residence
i. Determine firearms registered to the subject
e. Establish is the subject is the sole occupant of the home and/or if there are other
occupants present
i. If unable to determine from the call or prior contacts, contact family
members or associates
f. SAFE Team response considerations
4. Subject Contact
a. Contact the subject via telephone after collecting applicable information
b. Determine whether the subject will contact you outside of the house in a safe
manner
i. If it determined that the subject is in fact the sole occupant in the home and
is refusing services, advise immediate friends and/or family of the situation
and that officers will NOT be taking the subject into custody due to the
inherent risk to all
