REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Monday, May 21, 2012
The Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at Rohnert Park City
Hall, 130 Avram Avenue, Rohnert Park, for a regular meeting to commence at 6:30pm.
Call to order
The meeting was called to order by Chair Gerald Griffin at 6:30p.m.
Roll Call
Present: Chair Gerald Griffin, Vice Chair Bonnie Black and commissioners, Mike Bird, Chris Borr
& Linda Tracy
Absent: None
Staff Present: Guy Miller, Community Services Manager, John McArthur, Director of Public Works
and Community Services
Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Griffin
Approval of Minutes
A motion to approve the April 16, 2012 minutes, with corrections, was made by Black; Seconded by
Tracy. Motion carried 5-0.
Acknowledgment of Meeting Agenda Posting
Community Services Manager Miller acknowledged posting of the regular meeting agenda in three
public places per Brown Act requirements.
Public Comment — Unscheduled public appearances for items not listed on the agenda
None
Golf Course Oversight Committee- Manager Miller speaks about the Grand Jury Report, the
creation of the Golf oversight committee, and how it is currently working.
Commissioner Borr motions to add 2 committee non -golfer positions to the Golf Oversight
Committee, Griffin seconds, Bird opposes motion carries 4-1.
2. Capital Improvement Program - Director McArthur presents a detailed report outlining the
proposed user -fee surcharge to help add to the Capital Improvement Program Fund,
discussion follows.
3. Committee Reports

• Park Sponsorship Committee- no meeting
• Golf Oversight Committee- Next meeting July 17, 2012.
• Senior Citizen's Advisory Commission- Commissioner Black reports the meeting was
very brief. The center is continuing to offer several trips and lunches, membership is
increasing and people are happy.
• Bicycle Advisory Committee- 4th Monday of every month
5. Matters to/from Commissioners- Commissioner Borr asked about the Rohnert Park 50th
Anniversary Fundraiser pasta feed, Manager Miller said it was a great turnout.
Chair Black asked for an update on the park restrooms. Director McArthur answered that he is
not sure what the future holds for the park restrooms.
Commissioner Bird asked about the spas at the Sports and Fitness Center. Manager Miller
speaks about the possibilities and difficulties in replacing them.
Manager Miller updates the commission on the events happening in the community. Two
weeks ago the Girls -on -the -Run 5k took place at the Community Center complex over 800
runners attended. Tasty Tuesdays is up and running again but attendance has not been what
had been hoped for. The Sports and Fitness Center has a Mixed Martial Arts event the
weekend of the 25th. Thursday May 31st the Lawrence E. Jones Middle school will have 400
kids using the back lawn of the Sports and Fitness Center for their end of the school year
event, and the Sports and Fitness Center will again host Project Graduation on June 1st. The
Community will also be hosting the Wine Country Senior games with Softball at M park and
Volleyball at the Sports and Fitness Center. The Farmer's Market will begin on June 15th at
5:00 pm.

There being no further business, Chair Griffin adjourned the regular meeting of the Parks and
Recreation Commission at 7:36 pm. Next meeting will be Monday, June 18, 2012.
