CITY COUNCIL /PLANNING COMMISSION
May 2, 1989
The City Council and the Planning Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met
this date in combined session at the Red Lion Inn in Rohnert Park.
Present:
City Council: (5) Eck, Hollingsworth, Hopkins, Spiro and Mayor Cochran
Planning Commission: (4) Davis, Hirson, Mullins and Chairman Jones
Absent: (1) Commissioner Hamilton
Staff present: City Manager Callinan and Planning Director Skanchy. Others
prresent: David Allen, reporter for the Rohnert Park - Cotati Clarion
The meeting was jointly chaired by Mayor Cochran and Chairperson Jones.
The Council and Commission held a wide - ranging discussion concerning improving
communications between the respective bodies, the operation of meetings and
minutes, the need for a teen center within Rohnert Park, the Guanella Bros.
softball team and its use of the stadium, the Jack Harte granny unit, and the
need for the Commission to use curiosity.
Also discussed was the fact that the City Council's representatives comprised of
Mayor Cochran, Council Member Spiro, and Councilman Hopkins won the butter
churning contest in the Petaluma "Butter and Egg Days" held recently.
Councilman Hollingsworth initiated a discussion indicating that he's
disappointed that to date no frog had been found for presentation to the Mayor
to represent the City in the Angels Camp Calaveras Frog Jumping Contest.
Commissioner Mullins indicated he would try and get a frog.
A discussion was held concerning small lots and the Council requested that the
matter of small lots developed in the town be placed on the Council agenda.
Discussion was held concerning a teen center and the need to consider
integrating seniors and teen activities in one center. The pro's and con's of
this were discussed.
