2022/07/21 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes P0XNERT PAAA ig _ 62 CA[IEORN," SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION AND FRIENDS OF THE ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CENTER JOINT REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, July 21, 2022 12:30pm The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at the Rohnert Park Senior Center for a regular meeting to commence at 12:30pm. 1. SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION—CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Chair Pekkain called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm. Present: Jim Pekkain, Chair Gary Coffman, Vice-Chair Phyllis Transue, Commissioner Alice Kibwaa, Commissioner Absent: None Staff Present: Amanda Foley, Community Services Supervisor 2. PUBLIC COMMENTS None. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—Approval of minutes for the Special Senior Citizens Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center Joint Special Meeting of May 26, 2022. Moved/Second(Coffman/Transue)to approve meeting minutes for the special meeting of May 26, 2022. The motion was carried with the following 4-0-0-0 vote.AYES: Pekkain, Coffman,Transue, Kibwaa. NOS: None; ABSTAINS: None; ABSENT: None 4. MEETING ATTENDANCE a. Attendance Policy Community Services Supervisor, Foley shared the City Council attendance policy with the commission which commissions, committees and boards are to follow. Foley shared that staff spoke with the City Clerk to come up with the best course of action to address attendance issues with the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission. b. Discussion/Recommendation The commission was in agreement that since the commissioners serve at the pleasure of the City Council, when there is an attendance issue, the councilmember who the appointed the commissioner will be made aware of the attendance issue. The councilmember can then agendize the matter at a city council meeting to have the commissioner removed. 5. SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETINGS a. Special Meeting Locations at Senior Living Communities Community Services Supervisor, Foley shared the staff suggestion would be to host special meetings at the Altamont, Cogir, and Oak View. Foley shared she would reach out to the ig...i.„- -....-,-_ •fit #- senior living facilities and see if they would be open to be the host location for Special Senior Advisory Commission meetings in the future. b. Discussion/Recommendation The Commission was in agreement with staff reaching out to the suggested senior living facilities to host future special Senior Citizen Advisory Commission meetings. Commissioner Transue stated she will share information about the Senior Center/Senior Advisory Commission at Rancho Grande's monthly meeting. Vice-Chair Coffman shared he would go to senior living communities and ask if he can post the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission meeting agenda on their community boards. 6. SENIOR BOCCE LEAGUE a. Survey Results Community Services Supervisor Foley reported she e-mailed out a survey to Senior Center Members to see if they would be interested in playing in a bocce ball league for seniors in Rohnert Park. A total of 23 responses were collected with 14 of the responses being"yes". Foley shared the staff recommendation is to have the Parks and Recreation Master Plan vet itself out. The Master Plan can help see if Bocce is a community interest at 5 Creeks Park. b. Discussion/Recommendation Chair Pekkain shared an idea of having a Bocce social first to see how the interest is at 5 Creeks Park. The commission was in agreement. Community Services Supervisor Foley will look in the cost of bocce equipment. 7. COMISSIONERS GATHERING FEEDBACK FROM SENIOR CENTER a. Commissioner Feedback From Senior Center Visit Chair Pekkain and Vice-Chair Coffman reported on feedback they received from talking to seniors at the Senior Center. Commissioner Kibwaa and Commissioner Transue were unable to visit the Senior prior to the meeting. 8. SENIOR CENTER REPORT a. Community Services Supervisor i. Senior Center Programs Update Community Services Supervisor reported on the Senior Center Father's Day luncheon which had 40 people in attendance. Foley reported out on senior day trips and announced the Santa Rosa Junior College will be returning on August 15. Foley reported with the return of the Santa Rosa Junior College classes, the Senior Center will be extending the operating hours to 9am-4pm. Foley announced the annual Senior Center BBQ will be taking place on August 12. i i. Council on Aging Update Community Services Supervisor, Foley reported on July 1, congregate dining expanded form two days a week to three days a week with lunch now being served on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Foley reported the Weekly Wednesday drive- through pick up remains the same of 30-35 people picking up frozen meal packs each week. iii. Bingo Update Community Services Supervisor, Foley reported since the last meeting in May, Bingo has brought in $13,017.00. POHNERT Pgkk I'r� C41IPORNiN 9. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT Mayor Elward reported out on this item. 10.PARKS AND RECREATION LIAISON REPORT Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Borr reported out on this item. 11.COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR REPORT a. Building/Project Update None. b. Special Events Community Services Supervisor, Foley reported out on behalf of Community Services Director, Bagley. Foley reported on the Council on Aging Wine Country Games and shared over 200 people came to play pickleball at Sunrise Park. Community Services Supervisor Foley reported RP Jubilee had between 3,000-4,000 people in attendance. 12. COMMUNICATIONS None. 13. MATTERS TO/FROM COMMISSIONERS None. 14.ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Chair Pekkain adjourned the regular joint meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center at 1:26pm.
