SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION AND FRIENDS OF THE ROHNERT
PARK SENIOR CENTER JOINT REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, October 20, 2022 12:30 p.m.
The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center of the City
of Rohnert Park met this date at the Rohnert Park Senior Center for a regular meeting to commence at
12:30pm.
1. SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION—CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Pekkain called the meeting to order at 12:35pm.
Present: Jim Pekkain, Chair
Gary Coffman, Vice-Chair
Phyllis Transue, Commissioner
Absent: Alice Kibwaa, Commissioner
Staff Present: Cindy Bagley, Director of Community Services
Amanda Foley, Community Services Supervisor
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Edna Rodriguez spoke about applying to be a commissioner for the Senior Advisory Commission
and that she has not heard back about the status of her application.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES-Approval of minutes for the regular Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center Joint Regular Meeting of July 21,2022.
Moved/Second(Transue/Coffman)to approve meeting minutes for the Regular meeting of July 21,
2022. The motion was carried with the following 3-0-0-1 vote. AYES: Pekkain, Coffman,Transue.
NOS: None; ABSTAINS: None; ABSENT: Kibwaa.
4. COMMISSIONER VACANCY UPDATE
a. Update on the appointment of Senior Advisory Commissioner
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported a commissioner has not yet been
appointed. Director of Community Services Bagley provided an update on the City
Council elections and the logistics of the appointment. Bagley reported a commissioner
should be appointed by our next meeting in January.
b. Discussion
None.
5. COMMISSIONERS GATHERING FEEDBACK FROM SENIOR CENTER
a. Commissioner Feedback From Senior Center Visit

6. SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETINGS
a. Special Meeting Locations at Senior Living Communities
Community Services Supervisor reported she reached out to The Altamont, Oakview, and
Cogir to see if they would be interested in being the host location for a Special Meeting.
Foley reported the Altamont does not have the room to accommodate the meeting,
Oakview will be looking in to the possibility, and Cogir confirmed they can be a host
location for a Special Meeting.
b. Discussion
Commissioner Transue suggested asking Rancho Grande if they would be willing to be a
Special Meeting location. Commissioner Transue stated she will make the ask. The
commission discussed formally selecting days and time for special meetings at the
January 2023 Senior Advisory Meeting. Community Services Supervisor, Foley will
agendize this item for the January meeting.
7. SENIOR CENTER DONATION
a. Senior Center Donation Announcement
Director of Community Services, Bagley reported the Senior Center received a donation
in the amount of$100,000. Bagley reported staff is brainstorming several different options
to bring to City Council regarding how to appropriate the funds.
b. Discussion/Recommendation
Chair Pekkain suggested bringing this item to a future special meeting.
8. SENIOR CENTER REPORT
a. Community Services Supervisor
i. Senior Center Programs Update
Foley reported the Senior Center BBQ had great attendance with 70 tickets being
sold. Foley reported the Santa Rosa Junior College Older Adult Program classes
have returned in person. Foley shared there was a senior day trip to the Pacific
Coast Air Museum in September. Foley reported the next day trip will be in
November to the Aquarium of the Bay. Foley reported in honor of Veterans Day,
the Senior Center would be creating an Honor Wall. Foley reported the Vintage
Choir will be putting on a holiday concert on December 14.
ii. Council on Aging Update
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported Council on Aging congregate
dining has been serving between 16-20 people. Foley reported Council on Aging
will be adding an additional today to their lunch service due its steady attendance.
iii. Bingo Update
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported since the last meeting, Bingo has
brought in $13,638.79

10. PARKS AND RECREATION LIAISON REPORT
Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Borr reported out on this item.
11. COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR REPORT
a. Building/Project Update
Director of Community Services, Bagley provided an update on Pickleball courts.
b. Special Events
Director of Community Services, Bagley reported out on the upcoming Halloween
Carnival and The Haunt.

14. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Chair Pekkain adjourned the regular joint meeting of the Senior
Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center at 1:52 pm.
