SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES --
Thursday, January 19, 2023 12:30 p.m.
The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at the Rohnert
Park Senior Center for a regular meeting to commence at 12:30pm.
1. SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION-CALL To ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Pekkain called the meeting to order at 12:33pm
Present: Jim Pekkain, Chair
Gary Coffman, Vice-Chair
Phyllis Transue, Commissioner
Alice Kibwaa, Commissioner
Debby Mentz, Commissioner
Absent: None
Staff Present: Cindy Bagley, Director of Community Services
Amanda Foley, Community Services Supervisor

3. INSTALLMENT OF APPOINTED & REAPPOINTED SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY
COMMISSIONERS
a. Administration of Oath
Assistant City Clerk, Machado provided the administration of oath to Vice-Chair Coffman,
Commissioner Transue, and Commissioner Mentz.
4. SELECTION OF SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMISSION OFFICERS 2023 —
CONSIDERATION OF NOMINATIONS AND SELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-
CHAIR
a. Selection of Chair

Moved/second (Transue/Mentz) to approve nomination of Commissioner Pekkain as Chair for the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission. Motion carried with the following 5-0-0-0 vote. AYES:
Pekkain, Coffman, Transue, Kibwaa, Mentz; NOS:None ABSTAINS: None, ABSENT: None
c. Selection of Vice-Chair

5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—Approval of minutes for the regular Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center Joint Regular Meeting of October 20,2022.
Moved/second (Coffman/Transue)to approve meeting minutes for regular meeting of October 20,
2022.The motion was carried with the following 5-0-0-0 vote: AYES: Pekkain, Coffman, Transue,
Kibwaa, Mentz; NOS: None ABSTAINS: None, ABSENT: None.
6. MEETING FORMAT REFRESHER
a. Brown Act
Director of Community Services, Bagley presented this item.

Director of Community Services, Bagley presented this item.
7. SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING DATE
SELECTION
a. Selection of Special Meeting dates to be held at alternate locations
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported she reached out to the Altamont Apartments
and Cogir Senior Living to see if they would be able to be an alternate location for a special
meeting. Foley reported Cogir was available to be an alternate location. Foley reported
Altamont Apartments confirmed they do not have the proper meeting space available.
b. Discussion
Commission Transue reported she would reach out to Rancho Grande Mobile Home Park to
see if her and Chair Pekkain could attend Rancho Grande's Coffee Klatch meeting in
February. Chair Pekkain requested the results of the meeting be agenize for the April Senior
Advisory Commission meeting. The Commission agreed upon the date of March 22, 2023 at
2pm for the Special Meeting to be held at Cogir Senior Living. Community Services
Supervisor, Foley reported she would confirm the date availability with Cogir
8. SENIOR CENTER REPORT
a. Community Services Supervisor
i. Senior Center Programs Update
Community Services Supervisor, Foley provided updates about classes and upcoming
senior day trips. Community Services Supervisor Foley announced the Senior Prom
will be taking place on Saturday, April 15`
ii. Council on Aging Update
iii. Community Services Supervisory, Foley reported Council on Aging will be begin
serving lunch Monday-Friday due to an increase in attendance. Foley reported the
dining program has been serving an average of 16-20 people per day.
iv. Bingo Update
Community Services Supervisor Foley, reported since the last meeting, Bingo has
brought in $11,348.18.

11.COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR REPORT
a. Building/Project Update
Director of Community Services, Bagely reported out on the status of the Parks and
Recreation Master Plan.
b. Special Events
c. Director of Community Services provided the commission with an update on the I Heart
Rohnert Park special event series.

14.ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Chair Pekkain adjourned the regular joint meeting of the Senior
Advisory Commission and Friends of the Rohnert Park Senior Center at 1:31 pm.
