SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, July 20, 2023 12:30pm
The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date at the Rohnert
Park Senior Center for a regular meeting to commence at 12:30pm.
1. SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION-CALL To ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Pekkain called the meeting to order at 12:30pm.
Present: Jim Pekkain, Chair
Gary Coffman, Vice-Chair
Phyllis Transue, Commissioner
Alice Kibwaa, Commissioner(arrived during item 5)
Debby Mentz, Commissioner
Absent: None
Staff Present: Cindy Bagley, Director of Community Services
Amanda Foley, Community Services Supervisor
Marcela Piedra, City Manager
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—Approval of minutes for the regular Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission Meeting of April 20, 2023
Moved/second(Transue/Mentz)to approve meeting minutes for regular meeting of April 20,
2023.The motion was carried with the following 4-0-0-1 vote: AYES:, Pekkain, Coffman, Transue,
Mentz; NOS: None ABSTAINS: None, ABSENT: Kibwaa
4. INTRODUCTION OF NEW CITY MANAGER, MARCELA PIEDRA
a. Staff Presentation
Director of Community Services, Bagley introduced City Manager, Piedra.
5. SENIOR CENTER REPORT
a. Community Services Supervisor
i. Senior Center Programs Update
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported out on this item. Foley provided updates on the
mother's and father's day events, an Emergency Prep Help for Seniors workshop, and shared
about upcoming day trips to the Petrified Forest and Goatlandia. Foley announced the upcoming

Senior Center BBQ and shared three new classes that will be coming to the Senior Center in the
Fall.
ii. Council on Aging Update
Community Services Supervisor Foley reported Council on Aging serves an average of 15-20 people
per day for congregate dining. Foley reported the frozen meal pack pick up serves an average of 34
people per week.
6. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT
Councilmember Elward reported out on this item.
7. PARKS AND RECREATION LIAISON REPORT
Parks and Recreation Commissioner Borr reported out on this item and shared the commission last met in
June.
8. COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR REPORT
a. Building/Project Update
Community Services Director, Bagley reported out on this item. Bagley provided an update
on the Honeybee Pool construction, Magnolia Pool filtration system,and Sunrise Park
renovation.
b. Special Events
Community Services Director, Bagley reported out on this item. Bagley provided updates on
the following events that took place over the summer; Summer Kick-Off Brunch & BBQ,
Juneteenth Luncheon, and RP Jubilee.
9. PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
10. COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Kibwaa shared the crosswalk on Golf Course Drive needs more pedestrian Signage.
