A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROHNERT PARK
CALLING FOR THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE
HELD ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3,2026 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING ONE
(1) MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM DISTRICT 2,AND ONE (1) MEMBER
OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM DISTRICT 5,EACH FOR A TERM OF FOUR
YEARS; AND REQUESTING THE SONOMA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
TO CONSOLIDATE THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE
STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION,AND REQUESTING THE SONOMA COUNTY
REGISTRAR OF VOTERS RENDER SPECIFIED SERVICES TO THE CITY
RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
WHEREAS,Rohnert Park Municipal Code Section 2.64.010, directs that Rohnert Park's
general municipal elections shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
November of each even-numbered year, whereby the City's general municipal election will be
held on November 3, 2026, and conducted in accordance with the provisions of law regulating
the statewide election, including, but not limited to, Elections Code Section 10418; and
WHEREAS,it is desirable that the City of Rohnert Park general municipal elections be
consolidated with the statewide general election to be held on the same date, pursuant to
Elections Code Section 10002, and that the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters canvass the
returns of the general municipal election; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Rohnert Park Municipal Code Section 2.66.025 and in
compliance with California Elections Code 21607(a), on March 8, 2022,the City Council
adopted Resolution 2022-032 adopted boundary lines set forth in Map 11A for the City Council
general municipal election in November, 2022 and for every general municipal election
thereafter, as depicted in Attachment A, attached hereto and hereinafter incorporated by
reference, which established a by-district election process in five council districts pursuant to
California Elections Code Section 10010 and California Government Code Sections 34871(A)
and 34886; and
WHEREAS, Rohnert Park Municipal Code Section 2.66.040 provides that the City of
Rohnert Park is to conduct an election for members of the City Council from Districts 2, and 5 in
November 2026; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rohnert
Park does hereby resolve, declare, determine and order as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of California relating
to general law cities, a general election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of
Rohnert Park, California, on Tuesday,November 3, 2026, for the purpose of electing certain
members of the City Council as follows:
One (1) Member of the City Council from District 2 for a term of four (4)years; and
One (1)Member of the City Council from District 5 for a term of four(4)years.
SECTION 2. The County Registrar of Voters is authorized to canvass the returns of the
general municipal election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there was only one
election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. The election will be held and conducted in
accordance with the provisions of law regulating the statewide election.
SECTION 3. Pursuant to the requirements of Elections Code Section 10403, the Sonoma
County Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of the
City of Rohnert Park's general municipal election with the statewide general election on November
3, 2026, and, pursuant to Elections Code Section 10002, permit the Sonoma County Registrar of
Voters to prepare all required notices and general municipal election materials, to give all such
required notices, to send to the City's registered voters all required election materials, to conduct
the general municipal election, to canvass the vote received, and to take all steps necessary and
required for the holding of this election within the City of Rohnert Park. The City of Rohnert Park's
general municipal election shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of law regulating
the statewide election, including, but not limited to, Elections Code Section 10418.
SECTION 4. The City of Rohnert Park recognizes that the County will incur additional
costs by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for such costs.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to
the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters.
SECTION 7. The City of Rohnert Park declares that the nominations for the general
municipal election shall open on July 13, 2026, and close on August 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., unless
extended pursuant to Elections Code Section 10225.
SECTION 8. Notice of the time and place of holding the general municipal election within
the City of Rohnert Park is hereby authorized and approved, and the City Clerk is authorized,
instructed, and directed to give further or additional notice of the election in the time, form and
manner as required by law.
