Baton Impact Weapons Update Course Outline Baton/ Impact Weapons Update Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety | Presenter #4180 CCN: 21605 | POST Certification II | Reimbursement Plan NA | 4 hours Revised 06/15/2021 Statement of Purpose: The trainee/officer will develop the necessary tactical knowledge and skills to safely and effectively gain compliance/control and effectively arrest a suspect. This course consists of hands-on practical skills for use of impact weapons and personal body weapons (PBW) training for in-service officers. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The trainee will: a. Demonstrate knowledge of their individual Department Impact Weapon Policy. b. Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of mental and physical conditioning as it relates to effective arrest and control techniques. c. Demonstrate P.O.S.T. minimum standard of arrest and control skills with every technique and exercise, to include: 1. Judgment and Decision Making 2. Officer Safety 3. Body balance, Stance and Movement 4. De-escalation, Verbal Commands 5. Effectiveness under Stress Conditions Impact Weapons Course Topics a. Legal and Ethical Aspects of Force b. Safety orientation and warm-ups c. Baton/Impact Weapon Familiarization and Uses d. First Aid for Baton/Impact Weapon Injuries e. Practical Exercises and Techniques Minimum standards of performance shall be tested by an instructor observing the trainee during their performance of each technique and exercise. If the trainee does not meet minimum standards, as established by the presenter, remediation will be provided until the standard is met. I. REGISTRATION AND ORIENTATION (XII, A) A. This strike is a specialty strike against a boxing or similar stance where the tops of the fists or hands can be struck d.
