SOP-SSD-9 Probation ChecksTechnical Services Division SOP – 9 Date: July 8, 2013 SUBJECT: Probation Checks PURPOSE AND SCOPE: To establish a procedure on probation checks, in order to deliver current probation information to officers in a timely and efficient manner. POLICY: It shall be the policy of dispatch to provide probation checks to the officers as part of a standard return on a Person Check (10-26) or Warrant Check. PROCEDURE: Definition – checking to see if a subject is on probation through Criminal Net or Integrated Justice System (IJS AKA Green Screen), advising officer(s) of the terms of probation, and giving the information back to the officer. It is the responsibility of the primary CLETS person in the room to handle probation checks for the officers. When running multiple subjects, the other dispatchers in the room will communicate their ability to assist the CLETS person, in order to provide the information to the officer(s) in a timely manner. A. Probation checks will be a part of the standard person check on all 10-26 requests, whether asked for by the officer or not, unless specified otherwise by the officer (i.e. 10-27 only) B. Prefacing a return with “10-36 Probation” will only be used when there is an officer safety issue that is over and above the normal probation return, it will not be used when relaying standard probation terms. C. When checking probation, all “standard” probation terms will be verbalized to the officer by the appropriate position. Standard probation terms are as follows: 1. Conviction charges 2. Warrantless search and seizure (if Search or SS is listed, it will be interpreted they have search of person, property, vehicle and residence unless specified otherwise) 3. Be of good conduct and obey all laws (commonly abbreviated as BOGC OAL) 4. Possess NO weapons 5. Any alcohol terms, specify whether it says no alcohol, while driving, or no bars or liquor stores 6. Gang terms (not all terms need to be listed but advise the officer that there are gang terms and they will ask for more detail if appropriate to the call) 7. Stay away orders 8. Not possess or use controlled substances, including Marijuana even with a 215 card D. Out of county probation checks by way of phone call to another agency will be handled by dispatchers. Officers should only make this request when necessary. E. When a 10-26 is run, our CAD system automatically returns CWI, DL, WPS, SRF, CARPOS, NCIC, APPS and SAR. A 10-26 will also provide the Broadcasts and ILeads summaries, these returns will be checked and only relative information will be provided if it is related to the current incident or officer safety information. Probation is checked in the CJS/IJS system separately. Any officer safety related alerts or information should be prefaced with “10-36” and advised immediately. F. Any relative terms and/or clear status should be noted in the event remarks of the associated call if possible. The above list shows guidelines to standard operating procedures. The following dispatch expectations are required in relation to these guidelines: Be aware of each other’s workload, communicate, to provide excellent customer service, claim tasks and work as a team.
